The Standard Workshop

The TMODEL workshop brings you the opportunity to learn the latest in techniques and efficiencies in modeling directly from the authors of this powerful system.

The standard TMODEL workshop is for any beginning modeler or one who has experience and wants to learn more about TMODEL traffic simulation modeling. Experienced modelers find the course useful for learning the many features included in TMODEL. It is recommended that the student have basic computer skills and also background experience with transportation engineering or transportation planning. After an introduction to modeling theory, participants will build and use a TMODEL network. Novices to modeling as well as experienced modelers with or without TMODEL experience will find the workshop very useful. The goals of the course are to give the participants a better understanding of the theory of traffic simulation modeling, to enable them to develop technically better traffic models, and to provide methods for more cost-effective development of traffic simulation models. The course covers:

Instructional Method

The standard workshop is "hands-on." Each participant will build and use a traffic model using the computer and TMODEL. The use of the model is integrated with discussions on the purpose of each operation and the implications of changing the parameters. Because of this strong "hands-on" emphasis, each workshop is limited to from 12 to 20 students. We are currently scheduling workshops for 2002. If you are interested in attending or hosting a workshop please contact us for further information..

Throughout the workshop, participants will build and use a sample TMODEL model. Discussion of model definition, data needs, collection, coding, and calibration of a TMODEL will be included. The participant will also learn to use a network to make traffic forecasts, to identify existing and future network problems, and to determine and evaluate effective "what-if" alternative solutions.

The Advanced Workshop

Approximately once a year the authors offer a workshop in advanced topics and uses of TMODEL

The topics covered in the workshop are determined by the participants according to their needs and desires. Some of those considered are:

Before the start of each advanced course, we request that the attendees supply a list of topics they want covered. We also encourage them to bring questions and problems from their own modeling efforts.

To participate, one should have actual modeling experience with TMODEL and/or should have taken the Standard TMODEL Workshop. This class will cover a lot of material in a short time and, for this reason, will be primarily in a lecture/discussion/demonstration format. This workshop does not require as much hands-on activity as the Standard Workshop.

This workshop is fast, informative, and fun for all concerned. And, of course, you will enhance your ability to tap the powers of TMODEL and understand our approach to traffic simulation modeling. We look forward to your participation.

About the Instructor

The courses will be taught by Mr. Robert Shull of TModel Corporation. TModel Corporation is dedicated to the advancement of transportation planning and engineering analysis tools. Company emphasis is placed on TMODEL transportation modeling.

Mr. Shull is the president of TModel Corporation. Prior to forming TModel Corporation, he was Vice President of Metro Transportation Group and founder of Professional Solutions, Inc. He is the developer of the original TModel System. His consulting, engineering, programming, and systems analysis background provide him with the insight and skills to foresee the needs of transportation professionals and to develop low cost, efficient planning and analysis tools. In addition to developing the software, he has been building transportation models for over 25 years. Mr. Shull has taught many TMODEL workshops and has assisted with courses for the University of Washington Extension Service and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute.

What Others Say

Participants in previous courses have made the following statements concerning TMODEL workshops and instructors:

"I would not have been able to ever teach myself what I have learned."

"The class contained a wealth of information. I am ready . . ."

"Very high. This course will allow us to use a model that will allow us to recover many times the cost with better planning."

"Was of great value as a new user."

"Very knowledgeable and approachable. I would recommend this course."

"Better than 'Car Talk' with a touch of 'Ask Mr. Science' thrown in."

"Very Informative."

"This was an excellent seminar that integrated the theory of modeling with step-by-step explanations of the TMODEL program."

"Very good instructor. Where were you when I was in college?"

Workshop Locations and Schedules

Workshops are held at our Vashon Island office and other locations for the convenience of the attendees. The next workshop is scheduled for June 16-20, 2003 in Kent, Washington. It will be held at the City of Kent training facility. Kent is conveniently situated near the Seatac Airport and has access by public transportation. We will send out complete information to all registrants before the beginning of the class. We are also taking names for future Standard and Advanced workshops and will schedule a workshop that is convenient for the majority of the participants. We will notify those who have expressed interest as soon as the dates are confirmed. Individual training options have been made available onsite or in our offices – about every three to six months. If you are interested in personalized training or a workshop in your area, please give us a call or send us an email at tmodelcorp@tmodel.com .

Vashon Island is located west of Seattle and north of Tacoma in the Puget Sound. It is accessible by car ferry from both West Seattle and Tacoma and by passenger ferry from downtown Seattle. There are many bed and breakfast establishments on the Island to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. We plan an after-class trip on the first day to the Seattle waterfront to meet with the students on an informal basis. We will help you with arrangements through the Vashon Bed and Breakfast Association if you wish. Lodging is also available on the mainland. Workshops are usually scheduled to enable you to take advantage of any special "over Saturday" air fares. The first day will begin with registration from 8:00 - 8:30 A.M. We will end each day at 4:45 P.M. Class size is limited, so register early! We reserve the right to cancel the class if insufficient registrations are received. Registration closes 10 days prior to the first day of class.

Workshop Cost

The cost of the 5-day Standard TMODEL Workshop is $1050 US. This covers tuition, computer use, course materials, and coffee breaks. Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and meals. You may pay with a check, a purchase order from a government agency, or with a credit card at the time of registration.

If your organization has current TMODEL maintenance you will receive a $200 discount. If you purchase TMODEL within 180 days of your workshop training, you will receive a $200 discount with that order. Multiple registrations for the workshop from the same organization receive a $200 discount each, after the first registrant. There is a maximum of one discount per person.

The cost of the two-day Advanced Workshop is $550 per person including all materials. Additional participants from the same organization receive a $100 discount. Accommodations and meals are the responsibility of the participant.

Refunds for cancellations are made only if the cancellation is received ten (10) days before the first day of the class. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule a workshop if insufficient registrations are received 21 days before the start of the class.
